BLS New Provider

  • Initial Certification – For anyone required to obtain/maintain Basic Life Support for a Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) certification
  • Classroom Course – Offered by Staff Ed (8th Floor of Central Building, Classroom 1)
  • Offered – twice a month
  • Offered primarily for – PEIP participants (New Hires) – Please register through MyCompass or contact jpstephens@uams.edu to enroll in this class.
  • Scheduled – from 0800-1230
  • Who should attend this class?
    • First Time Certifications
    • BLS HCP certification that has expired greater than 90 days
  • Certification Requires Successful completion of the following:
    • Written Exam
      • Score of 84% or higher
    • Skills Check including:
      • Adult/Child 1 & 2 Rescuer CPR
      • Infant 1 & 2 Rescuer CPR
      • Use of an AED
      • Bagging

BLS Renewal/Refresher Course

  • Recertification – For someone that is required to carry Basic Life Support for a Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) certification
  • Classroom Course – Offered in Staff Education (8th Floor of Central Building, Classroom 1)
  • Offered – Once a quarter (Once every 3 months)
  • Offered to – any participant that has a current BLS HCP card – Please register through MyCompass or contact jpstephens@uams.edu to enroll in this class.
  • Scheduled – from 0800-1200
  • Who should attend this class?
    • Anyone who has a current BLS HCP certification
    • Anyone that prefers a classroom (more hands-on) learning environment
  • Certification Requires Successful completion of the following:
    • Written Exam
      • Score of 84% or higher
    • Skills Check including:
      • Adult/Child 1 & 2 Rescuer CPR
      • Infant 1 & 2 Rescuer CPR
      • Use of an AED
      • Bagging

BLS Online

  • Recertification – BLS HCP Current Providers that wish to recertify their BLS HCP using an online learning module.
  • Online Course – Can be completed at work or home
  • Offered – 24/7 online learning module
  • Offered to – any participant that has a current BLS HCP certification card. To obtain online code, complete the Online Request Form. (MUST supply your BLS HCP certification expiration date to obtain an online BLS key)
  • Scheduled – Learner convenience
  • Who can complete this course?
    • Any BLS HCP provider who has a Current certification card
  • Course Details:
    • You will receive the AHA Online Key invitation email.
  • There are 3 components to Online Course Completion:
    1. Online Program (MUST print certificate and bring to the Skills Check Session)
    2. Skills Practice (Offered at the Skills Check Stations)
    3. Skills Check-Off (Offered once a month in Staff Education; offered at other times and locations as posted on other units)
  • MUST complete all required modules in the program.  Optional informational modules and videos available in program.
  • After completing the modules, you are required to take the online Test.  If you do not pass the test (Test A) with 84%, you will be required to repeat the test (Test B).  If you do not pass either of the online written exams, please contact a current BLS AHA Instructor for remediation. If you have any questions please contact jpstephens@uams.edu.   • You have 30 days to activate the key or it will be recalled for another user to activate
  • You have 60 days from the online program completion date to complete the required skills check or your certificate expires.  If your certificate expires, you must retake the BLS program at your own expense!
  • BLS & ACLS Online Skills Check Sessions:
  • Skills Checks Include:
    • Adult/Child 1 & 2 Rescuer CPR
    • Infant 1 & 2 Rescuer CPR
    • Use of an AED
    • Bagging
  • Staff Education Skills Checks:
    • Registration NOT required
    • First Come, First Serve
    • “Come and Go”
    • Average BLS Session takes 15-20 minutes to complete
    • Wait time varies depending on the amount of students ahead of you and the amount of Instructors available to perform Skills Checks
    • To ensure timely readiness of your completion card, please complete all information completely and be sure to supply your SAP #
    • Course completion cards will be available for pick-up on Wednesday following the Skills Check
    • Course completion cards are to be picked up by the participant at the 8th floor Central Building Reception Desk
